The fishery re-opened on 1st June and I've had time to fish a couple of matches (not very successfully).

The fishery is looking brilliant, most of the mud has gone, Pool 9 is still bare but will come good during the summer. Most of our pleasure anglers have been fishing on Uglies, Pretties and Pool 8 and everybody seems to have been catching plenty of fish.

My first match was the first of a 6 match Saturday series. With 2 pegs left in the bag and with me and Jason Adlam to draw, he's drawn Peg 1 and left me Peg 5...second to last in section, just managed to beat my neighbour.

Wednesday evening match I drew Peg 28, a real good skimmer peg but it's fished awful...last in section

Next was the second Saturday league. This time there's 86 and 109 left in the beg. Adlam draws 86 of course...last in section

This was getting to be a little tiresome, my gear was ready to go on eBay, but luckily yesterday I drew peg 105 on Pool 7 on our club match and weighed in 154 lbs...second in section. I was winning it with an hour to go and then I think I made a bit of an error. Not going to tell you what...got to keep a few secrets ;)

So, my advice to anybody visiting is to do what you do best, if you don't do anything well then do what you enjoy. Paste is working surprisingly well at the moment, I think partly because there's very little wind making the "corn line" really difficult and letting the paste anglers sit with their bait not towing in the wind. If it's got a good westerly blowing by next week then I'd suggest corn rather than paste. Far bank feeder is producing good results provided that you can cast straight. There's millions of fish cruising around but mugging isn't working that well. During the second half of the matches groundbait and dead reds has been brilliant in the margins for the last couple of years but maybe it's not working quite so well this year. I've been catching more on corn and micros in the edge.

Weights on the matches have been pretty good with lots of tons and a few double tons. Skimmer bags up to 70 lb from the right areas of Pool 1. Lowest weight on my pool yesterday was just over 100 lbs
