Following on from various posts about the site I would be interested in members views on this suggestion - a four match series to find the MFS All-Round Champion/All-Rounder (whatever name we want!)

The basis is that as a national club we need to provide opportunities to take part in matches to all members so the series would be spread across the country - matches to include a commercial, a silvers only natural or similar, a river (yes that is water that moves!) and a canal.

Members could fish all or some with the section points from the four matches aggregated to give an overall winner.
    Possible venues could be

    Glebe/Cudmore
    Barston (silvers only)
    Thames (Winsor/Medley)
Grand Union Canal (Milton Keynes)/Trent & Mersey/Shropshire Union/ Kennet and Avon

Or what other venues do you think we could use to ensure a spread around the country?

Alternatively what about a series involving float only(rod&reel), pole only, feeder only matches?

Some ideas- what do you think?

Personally I believe commercial match fishing is the majority aspect of our sport with silvers, rivers and canals being the minority so I'd focus on commercials first in terms of generating interest ie maybe a league with a match north, south, east and west on a commercial.

I think silvers only, rivers and canals will be less popular so save that until you have your main flagship comp up and running.

I like the idea Brian and I would certainly support it but and it’s a big but, I think you would struggle to get the numbers to make it work, people seem to want to go to the same venues week after week and travel less nowadays, be interesting to see what others think though

Yeah like those above I dont think this would be viable unfortunately. Just speaking personally I wouldnt travel to any of those venues for one off MFS matches nevermind all of them. If i'm going to travel upwards of 2hrs for a match, the potential rewards need to be worthwhile, ie a spot in the final of Fisho or MMT

Great idea but I think Ian is correct. It would be interesting to see how many active mebers have fished a cannal/river this year.

I’m an active member and fished a river once this season and that was a night session.

I applaud Bryan’s intentions, but could be a lot of effort for little reward for both the MO and participants.

MFS has diversified greatly in the past 18 months.

One of the reasons for the suggestion is the fact highlighted by Herbie in the "Call to Arms" thread- that the majority of activity seems to be based in the South East/London area, which is understandable given the wealth of fishing there. But what about other areas of the country which do not have the same range of venues/commercials? Take my area - the South West for instance, apart from Viaduct and the resort venues in Devon/Cornwall there are not many "commercial" venues of the same ilk as the SE, indeed there are very few venues with F1s stocked - my nearest local with F1s is a 90 minute drive- not due to distance but the road network.. Yet there is a good river/canal scene and despite trying to encourage others to join MFS they say well what river/canal matches are there- obviously very few. Indeed when I and others have tried to put MFS river/canal matches on they have had to cancel them due to lack of interest.
If we are to diversify and not just be a commercial/F1 orientated site we need to offer the full range of venues to attract new members in other parts of the country. Yes it would be hard work at first but potentially worth it in the long run.

Your lucky it takes me 90mins each way to get to most waters I fish in the traffic around here, and only 35 mins on summer evenings.
Cudmore is a good 90 min drive with moderate traffic.
It’s bonkers traffic around in my area

Opposite problem for me and anyone in my area, any day of the week I've got a choice of 3 or 4 matches within a 30 minute drive. Not just commercials, rivers canals etc.
And that's part of the problem in the NW, too much choice. I'm certain in our area that's the reason for lack of interest in MFS matches.
Only way to change that is to offer something unique. What that is I and most fisheries would love to know.

Zinki how many people would fish say fisho and other likeminded competitions if there were no prize on offer. Its not rocket science
Try it advertise your own comp without an end reward as a trial and see how many takers you get. Feel free to use mfs
If bryan had placed a £1000 prize for his comp idea you would find the server overloaded

I don’t fish for money either, then again I know my limits and comps like Fisho are way out of my league.
I fish for a day out away from work the match aspect is just added spice.

I like the idea of this and I think that it would work but travelling a minimum of 2/3 hours to the nearest venue would mean it would be very difficult for me to fish

Winning money never crossed my mind when I was match fishing, all about the day out with some good mates.
The intersite matches were about the points and winning the series not the money.
I have my views on the big matches like the fisho but they are best kept to myself.
